There’s Still Time to Add Your Name to the 2008-09 Honor Roll!
The end of the giving year is fast approaching on August 31! Be sure that you’re listed on the next published Honor Roll of Donors by making your donation before the giving year ends.

A few of our donors recently shared the influence that the fraternity has had on them, and why they support SAE in their alumni years:

• “My best friends are my fraternity brothers.”
• “SAE has allowed me to be a strong relationship builder, which has helped me in my career. More importantly, it’s allowed me to be a happier person.”
• “I would say the fraternity has completely influenced the person I am today.”

Hasn’t SAE had a similar impact on you too?

Let us know the ways it has – and make your annual fund donation – before the giving year ends August 31.

How Has SAE Influenced You?
Sigma Alpha Epsilon has undoubtedly played a big role in all of our lives, and for many of us that influence has lasted beyond our undergraduate years at The University of Pennsylvania. We want to know how UPenn has made a difference in your life today. Think about your most important aspects of your life: your kids, your wife, your job, even yourself. Would any of those still be the same if you had never become a part of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at UPenn?

Take a few minutes to let us know how SAE has made an impact on your life, and to give us an update on where you are today. Click here to get started.

In Memory of John Stern ‘48
Lorna Stern, wife of John (Jack) M. Stern, Jr. sent us the following note:

This is to advise the Pennsylvania Theta chapter of SAE, graduate of 1948, that John (Jack) M. Stern, Jr. passed away due to complications of throat cancer on December 10, 2008. After graduation at University of Pennsylvania, Jack traveled to Alaska within a few years. After being employed for one of the local intra Alaska air carriers for several years, he entered the University of Washington Law School and graduated from there in 1958. He met his wife at U/W, got married, and upon graduation Jack and bride, Lorna, made their home in Anchorage, AK. Jack practiced transportation and administrative law for 25+ years in Alaska. Jack was also appointed by then Governor William A. Egan as Chairman of the Alaska Public Commission. He served in that post for 2+ years, then returned to private practice.

As a result of his practice specialties, particularly transportation law, he entered into transportation, purchased a company, which he developed over the years. That company has been in existence since 1978. It's Pioneer Van Lines, Inc. which specializes 99% of the time transporting military household goods around the world. For some years I have been the president of Pioneer Van Lines and still continue my work there, but on a more limited basis. Having loyal, experienced employees to run a successful company while I was Jack's caregiver, is truly a blessing. They continued the work that Jack had taught them over the years while Jack was becoming weaker with the cancer.....and kept on making money!!!!

Jack and Lorna were 18 days shy of celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary on the day Jack passed away.
